Funnel weaver spiders build a dense horizontal web that leads into a silk-lined funnel. Hidden at the end of this retreat, the spider detects even the faintest vibrations caused by passing insects before rushing out to capture its prey. Rather than trapping prey with sticky silk, the web acts as a highly sensitive vibration detection system.
